Custom Fields - Admin

With Thread, you can create custom fields that can be added to a file or contact. These fields can be viewed in file summaries and can be used when creating a template. 

Custom fields must be created for a category such as File - Custom, Contact - Custom, Company - Custom, or Global 

Note: custom fields added to the File and Contact categories will only apply to the Template Designer and will not appear on the file summary page. 



Creating File - Custom Fields 

  1. 1. In the left pane of Thread, click Custom Fields, located under Template Desk. 


  1. 2. In the top grey pane, click Add. 

 

  1. 3. A pop-up window will appear. Fill in all information related to the custom field, add a data type, a category, a description, and choose whether to pin it to the file summary page. 



Contact - Custom fields, and File - Custom fields can be used to create templates in Template Designer.
Only File - Custom and Global fields can be used across file categories and be viewed on the File Summary page. 

  1. 4. Click OK to save. 


Creating Global Custom Fields

If you want your custom field to be usable on any type of template (email, bill, global templates etc.), you can create it as a Global field instead. You will then be able to pull information from this field to any template, regardless in which category it's saved.

Global fields will show across all files.
  1. 1. In the left pane of Thread, click Custom Fields, located under Template Desk. 


  1. 2. In the top grey pane, click Add. 

 

  1. 3. A pop-up window will appear. Select Global from the dropdown for Category Field. Add a data type, field name, and choose whether to pin it to the file summary page. 



4. Click OK to save. 

Your field will now be visible on all files, and can be used in the Template Designer on all templates.

Creating Contact - Custom Fields 

  1. 1. In the left pane of Thread, click Custom Fields, located under Template Desk. 


  1. 2. In the top grey pane, click Add. 

 

  1. 3. A pop-up window will appear. Choose Contact - Custom as Category Field.


  2. 4. Select the type of field depending on the type of information you want to add for a contact.


  3. 5. Once you have entered the field display name and description, click OK.

  4. 6. Created contact - custom field will show in any contact under Fields tab.



  1. Note: Contact - Custom fields can also be used in Template Designer to code templates.  


Creating Company - Custom Fields 

  1. 1. In the left pane of Thread, click Custom Fields, located under Template Desk. 


  1. 2. In the top grey pane, click Add. 

 

  1. 3. A pop-up window will appear. Choose Company - Custom as Category Field.


  2. 4. Select the type of field depending on the type of information you want to add for a company.


  3. 5. Enter the field display name and description, and choose whether this field is mandatory to fill in when adding companies.


  4. 6. Created company - custom field will show in any company under Custom Fields tab.



Editing Custom Fields 

Once you have created a custom field, you can edit it at any time to change the data type, category, description, and pin/unpin from the File Summary page. 

Display name of custom fields is not editable. If you need to change the field name, please create a new custom field instead or contact our support team for assistance.

  1. 1. In the left pane of Thread, click Custom Fields, located under Template Desk. 

  1. 2. Select the custom field you want to edit and click Edit in the top grey pane. 

 

  1. 3. A pop-up window will appear where you can edit the details. 



 

  1. 4. When finished editing, click OK. 

 Deleting Custom Fields 

If you no longer want a custom field to appear on Thread, you can delete it at any time. 

  1. 1. In the left pane of Thread, click Custom Fields, located under Template Desk. 

  1. 2. Select the custom field you want to delete and click Delete in the top grey pane. 

 

  1. 3. A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm your decision. Click OK.
