Coding and Formatting a Letterhead across the page width

Coding and Formatting a Letterhead across the page width

You can code your templates with the header and footer so that if your header or footer images or details ever change, you only need to change them in Thread settings, and it will apply to all templates.

If you wish that your header and footer show across the page width, see the steps below on how to configure this in Word.

1. Open a blank new Word document, click on View tab and tick to view Ruler so you can set your margins for the header, footer and body.

2. Set the margins for the body as below, or as needed:

3. Set the margins for the header and footer by double clicking on the header area and then footer area, to show as below:

4. Reduce the 'Header from top' and 'Footer from bottom' to 0, you can leave more space there if you wish:

Using Template Designer, add header and footer logo codes to header and footer areas of the document, and align to the center or right depending on how your header or footer need to show.

Once you are happy with the formatting, save the document as 'Letterhead coded' and then upload that document to Template Desk under Global category. Make sure to test if this is showing correctly by generating this template in any file.

Note: You must have header and footer logo already uploaded to Company Logo area in Admin Settings.

When creating templates, you can download that 'Letterhead coded' document to their PC where you can further create and code the template, and then upload the newly created template to the relevant category in Template Desk.

The suggested process for creating templates would be:
  1. In Template Desk - Global, open 'Letterhead coded' document
  2. First, save a copy of that document to your PC
  3. Upload that copy to correct category in Template Desk
  4. Add text and code template as needed.

This way, if the header or footer changes at any point, it will apply across all templates as they are just pulling in the saved header and footer image from your Thread.

Make sure this formatting shows correctly on your printed documents, print a generated template to check that the header and footer show as you need on a printed page.
