Mark a Contact as 'Primary Client' on a Matter
You may want to make a contact, or company (if that company has no contacts) the primary client of a matter.
When generating bills, the bill will automatically be assigned to the primary client of a matter. You will also be able to pull reports for your client.
1. In the left pane of your Thread page, click Matters.
2. In the search bar provided, search for the matter in which you wish to mark a contact as the primary client.
3. Click on the Matter name to open it.
4. Under the Overview tab, click Manage in the Contacts section.
5. Select the desired contact or company (if the company has no contacts), then click Primary Client.

If you are marking a company as primary client and you wish for this matter to show as a company matter, please also select the company in the ‘Company name
’ field on the Overview tab. 6. The contact or company will now be registered as the primary client of your matter.
If you don't have the contact linked yet to your matter, choose Link Contact or Link Company (if your client is a company without contacts). Once it is linked to the matter, follow the steps above to make it as Primary Client.
Changing Primary Client on Matters
If you have a primary client on the matter already, but it needs to be changed to someone else, follow the steps below.
1. In the left pane of your Thread page, click Matters.
2. In the search bar provided, search for the matter in which you wish to mark a contact as the primary client.
3. Click on the Matter name to open it.
4. Under the Overview tab, click Manage in the Contacts section
5. Click Link Contact and search for the contact (or company without contacts) that you now wish to add to the matter as your primary client.
6. Once the contact has been added to the matter, select the contact and click Primary Client on the top tool bar.
This contact will now become the new primary client, and the original contact will no longer be the primary client in this matter.
7. Select the original contact and click Unlink in the top toolbar if it needs to be removed from the matter.

The original primary client will now be removed from this matter.
