Moving to a New Domain

Moving to a New Domain

If you are changing your email domain (e.g. user@company.com to user@othercompany.com), and would like to keep using the same Thread site, this is only possible if both domains are linked to the same Microsoft tenant.

Domains within same Microsoft

Once your IT has completed the switch of all users to the new domain, you need to complete the following steps in Thread.

Sync from Office 365

In the top left corner, click on your initials or photo, and select personal settings.

Under General Tab, scroll down and click on Sync from Office 365

Adding Users

If your email accounts in Microsoft did not get updated to the new domain, but instead you had entirely new users created in Microsoft, you will need to add those new users to Thread. For more information on adding users, please go to User Management.
Alert
All data linked to the old users in Thread will need to be manually updated to the new user if needed (e.g. updating your files to select your new user as file owner).

Update the mailflow

If you have also updated the email address used as your dedicated email in Thread, you will need to save the new email address in Thread.
Go to Settings -> General -> Commons and enter the new email address that will be used as the dedicated email going forward. Click Verify & Save.

For more information, please see Thread Dedicated Email.

Your IT provider (Microsoft Global Administrator) will need to update the mailflow rule in the Microsoft Exchange admin centre to reflect the new dedicated email. Please find the steps to complete this here:
Setting up Mailflow rule.

Domains on separate Microsoft tenants

If the new domain is on a separate Microsoft tenant, then a switch to the new tenant would require a full data migration at standard chargeable rates. This would also require completing Thread provisioning on the new Microsoft tenant and configuring the new Thread site to match your current configuration setup.

Please contact support@threadsoftware.com for more information on migration charges.
