Roles & Permissions - Admin

In the Roles & Permissions section of Thread, you can grant user permissions and access to functions within Thread based on their role in the organisation. Some permissions that can be assigned to roles include: 
 

  • -Access to other users’ information. 

  • -Access to reports. 

  • -Editing user types and permissions. 

  • -And more. 
     

Adding Roles 

You can add new roles with specific permissions and access on Thread and then assign these roles to users. 
  1. 1. Select the settings tab Picture on the bottom left of your menu.

  1. 2. Expand the Team Management tab. 


  1. 3. Select Roles & Permissions

  1. 4. Select +Role

  1. 5. A pop-up window will appear. Enter the role name and select the permissions and access you want to grant to the role. Also include target working hours per annum for the specific role.

  1. 6. Click Save. 
     


Setting Role Permissions 

After you have added a new role to Thread, you can always edit and change the permissions and access granted to that role. 
  1. 1. Select the settings tab Picture on the bottom left of your menu.

  1. 2. Expand the Team Management tab. 


  1. 3. Select Roles & Permissions

  1. 4. Select the role you want to edit and click Edit in the top grey pane. 

Note: you can only edit one role at a time.

  1. 5. The Edit Role window will appear. You can remove or grant permissions, change the role name, and change the target hours associated with the role.

  1. 6. When finished editing, click Save.  
     

Deleting Roles 

If you want to remove a role from Thread, you can do this in the Role Management tab. 

Note: If you only want to remove a specific user, you can do this in the User Management section.  

  1. 1. Select the settings tab Picture on the bottom left of your menu.

  1. 2. Expand the Team Management tab.

  1. 4. Select the role you want to remove and click Delete in the top grey pane. 


  1. 5. A confirmation window will appear asking you to confirm your decision. Click OK

Understanding Role Permissions 
 

Role Permissions 
 

  1. 1. Can access all Users' Expenses - enables the user to access Expenses done by other users (if removed they can view and edit only their own expenses). 
     

  1. 2. Can access all Users' Time History - enables the user to access Time History of all other users. 
     

  1. 3. Can access financial fields - removing this will only show Time and Expenses sections under the Financial tab in matters. 


  1. i. Can access Bills - enables the user to see the Bills tab in Financial details of the matter. 

  1. ii. Can access Payments - enables the user to see the Payments tab in Financial details of the matter. 

  1. iii. Can access Requisitions - enables the user to see the Requisitions tab in Financial details of the matter. 

  1. iv. Can access Clients - enables the user to see the Client Account tab in Financial details of the matter.

Notes

If any of the 4 (bills, payments, requisitions, and clients account) are enabled, the user will then also have access to view Overview and Settings pages of the Financial tab.

AlertIf the role does not have access to financial fields, the user is not able to include time records in a bill. 

 

     4. Can access Undertakings - enables the user to access Undertakings in a matter and in the Vault. 
 

     5. Can delete Items - enables the user to delete any items in Thread that have delete option. 
 

     6. Can edit user type and permissions - enables the user to edit users in User Management and change their permissions in Role Management. 
 

 

Menu Permission 
 

  1. 1. Can access Contacts - enables the user to view Contacts in the Matter management menu and create new contacts using quick create button. Without this permission, the user can still create and edit contacts within a matter only. They can also search through any contacts using Thread search bars. 
     

  1. 2. Can access Deeds - enables the user to view all Deeds from the Vault, and view/add deeds to contacts. 
     

  1. 3. Can access Expenses - enables the user to view all expenses from the Matter management menu, add new expenses and edit existing ones. 
     

  1. 4. Can access Matters - without this permission, the user cannot access any matters or use search options. 
     

  1. 5. Can access Key Dates - enables the user to view all Key Dates from Matter management menu, without this permission user can only view and edit key dates within matters. 
     

  1. 6. Can access Management Reports - enables the user to access Management Reports, Firm Time and User Time reports. 
     

  1. 7. Can access Call Logs - enables the user to view Call Logs from the Matter management menu, add new, and view or edit existing (if removed, unable to add or edit phone messages anywhere in Thread). 
     

  1. 8. Can access Reports & Exports - enables the user to access and export Reports. 
     

  1. 9. Can access Scanned Items - enables the user to access Scanned Items page and assign items to matters. Without this permission, user can only view scanned items within the matter or on their dashboard if assigned to them or their matter. 
     

  1. 10. Can access Tasks - enables the user to access Tasks from the Matter management menu.  
     

  1. 11. Can access Template Desk - enables the user to access Template Desk menu (note this includes both Create & Edit for templates, and Custom Fields).  
     

  1. 12. Can access Time History - enables the user to access Time History section. 
     

  1. 13. Can access Unissued Bills. 
     

  1. 14. Can access Team Management - gives user permission to access admin settings. 
     

  1. 15. Can access Wills - enables the user to view all Wills from the Matter management menu, and view/add deeds to contacts. 
     

 

Role Settings 
 

  1. 1. Send requisition mail - When ticked, this role can be selected for sending an email to users when a requisition is added. 
     

  1. 2. Set Task filters to All by default - If ticked, when accessing Tasks tab on To-do list page all filters will show All by default. If not ticked, it will remember your last chosen filters. 
     

  1. 3. Show all unassigned scan items by default - If ticked, scanned items will show Unassigned by default when user accesses scanned items page. If not ticked, it will show assigned to that user by default. 
     

  1. 4. Show all users’ call logs by default - If ticked, when entering Call log tab on To-do list page, it will open messages for all users by default. If not ticked, it will open for that user only by default.
