Thread Timer

Thread Timer

Depending on your firm and personal settings, Thread timer will record time automatically or you can start the timer manually when you need to. (See Matter Time – Overview for details on firm and personal time settings)

All recorded time will be visible on the Financial / Time tab of a matter, where they can be edited or deleted as needed.

You will also see your time in your daily time sheet, or to view time recorded from previous days go to the Time History page.

Automatic time recording

Timer start

Automatic time recording in Thread is triggered on the following items:

1) Creating / editing a document

2) Creating / editing a matter note

3) Drafting an email

4) Creating a call log / return call

5) Creating / editing a bundle in bundle editor

When using automatic time recording, your timer will automatically start recording when you initiate any of the above actions. The timer icon on the bottom left will start flashing green when time is recording.

Timer stop – record saved

As per above diagrams, timer will automatically stop and save as follows:

  • *Creating / editing a document – does not stop automatically, must be stopped in your daily time sheet once you are finished working on the document.

  • Creating / editing a matter note – stops when you click Create / Save

  • Drafting an email – stops when you click Send (if you close the draft without sending, timer will pause and you can decide if you wish to stop and save, or continue later)

  • Creating a call log – stops when you click Save

  • Return call – stops when you click End Call or Follow Up

  • Creating / editing a bundle – when Bundle Editor closes

Info

If you are recording time and you close your tab / window, the timer will stop and save the recorded time if it was longer than 1 minute.

NotesThe recorded time will use the default values for time type and rate as per your default settings in Thread. You can edit those fields as needed in your daily time sheet

Timer pause

If you start another timer while the current timer is still running (for example if you are working on a document but then start writing an email), your current timer will be paused. You can continue any paused timer when needed in your daily time sheet or stop and save if you are finished recording that time.

You can view any currently active timers by hovering over the timer icon in the bottom left.

When the timer is paused, the timer icon on the bottom left will be yellow, and you will be able to see any paused timers by hovering over the icon.

Start timer manually

If you are starting a timer manually, it will work the same as automatic recording once you click on Start timer option.

Notes

'Start timer' option will only be visible if your time recording mode is set to ‘Manually’ in your personal settings.

Start timer is available in the following items:

Creating / editing a document – right click on document name

Creating / editing a matter note – right click on note name, or in ‘Edit matter note’ window

Drafting an email – next to send button when editing draft

           a)

           b)

Creating a call log – bottom left of the Add call log window

Return call – bottom left of the Return call window

Creating / editing a task – bottom left of the task pop-up

Timer will automatically stop and save same way as per automatic time recording above.

If you need to record time where timer is not available, you can log a manual time record instead.
