Issuing Bills

Issuing Bills

You can issue a bill directly from a matter or from the global Financials > Bills page on Thread. 


Warning
You must have a bill ID enabled and set up for your firm to create and issue bills. See Setting up a Bill ID for more details.

Issuing bills from a Matter:  

  1. 1. Click Matters in the left pane of your Thread page. 

  1. 2. Search for the matter you want to issue a bill for and click the matter name. 

  1. 3. Select the Financial tab in the top grey pane, then the Bill tab on the left pane. 


 


  1. 4. If the bill has already been created, select the bill you want to issue and click the ellipsis button or simply do a right click to Approve it (where applicable) then click Issue bill.

If the bill is not yet created, you can create a new bill from Financial - Bills page of a matter and then Include Matter Time in a Bill or create a fixed fee bill. 


    
   5. A pop-up window will appear. Select the template you want to use for the bill. You can search for a template using the search bar provided.  

  

  1. 6. Click Next.  

  1. 7. The bill will generate in the Financial - Bills tab and you can click the ellipsis button or do a right click to move the bill to the Documents tab of the matter.

Time on Matter documents that were included in the bill will now show in the matter Is billed column as Yes, and an info icon will appear to view the details of the bill.  

            


Issuing bills using Bills page: 


AlertTo issue bills from the Bills page in Thread, the bill must already be created on a matter with the relevant timed items / fixed fee description included in the bill. 

1. Go to Financials tab on the left pane, then the Bills tab in the top grey pane. 


 
 

2. Use the filters to find the unissued bills by matter owner, category and time period. 

 
 

 

3. Click on Approve bill then Issue bill in the top grey pane. 

 

4. A pop-up window will appear. Select the template you want to use for the bill. You can search for a template using the search bar provided.  
 

  

  1. 5. Click Create.  

  1. 6. The bill will generate in the Financial- Bill tab and you can click the ellipsis button or do a right click to move the bill in the Documents tab of the matter.

  2.      You will also see the bill details on the Financial - Bill tab of the matter.

Time on Matter documents that were included in the bill will now show in the matter 'Is billed' column as Yes, and an info icon will appear to view the details of the bill.  

 

AlertOnce a bill has been issued, you cannot edit details or generate it again. You would need to unissue the bill to make any changes. See unissuing bills for more details.
