Thread Release Notes 25th July 2025
Bill ID
A unique bill ID is now required for all bills in Thread, which will automatically be assigned and calculated to each bill when it is created.
Your firm can choose the bill ID prefix and starting number to get started. Learn more about how bill ID works and how to set it up on Setting up Bill ID - Admin.
Payment Link to Bill
When adding or editing a payment, you can now link it to a corresponding bill to update the outstanding amount for that bill. If needed, your firm can make this a mandatory field to ensure all users adhere to linking payments to a bill.
Once a payment has been linked to a bill, you will see the payment details on the bill details window, from where the payment can be accessed also. You will also see the total payments amount for each bill, and the outstanding amount on the Bills page of a matter, or global Bills page in Thread.
Time tab Columns
You can now choose which columns you need visible on your matter Time tab, setting the desired view to only focus on what is relevant to you. Add or remove columns, and rearrange their order as needed.
Time & Billing - Admin
- Within your Thread admin settings, you now have a consolidated Time & Billing section where you can manage all related settings. The following pages have now moved here: Billing General (ex Billing Approval and Billing Method), Time settings, Time type, Expense Category, Expense Code, Tax Rate, Hourly Rate, Monies Transfer Type.
- Hourly Rates - you can now disable hourly rates that are no longer applicable, so that they would no longer show on your Rate options, but would not affect existing time records.
Before disabling, you can rename the existing hourly rate to reflect it is no longer the active one on existing time records, i.e. 'Contingency - 2024' or 'Partner - OLD RATE'.
You will also see a history log of changes made on hourly rates, so that when an hourly rate value has been changed in your admin settings, you can see a log of changes.
Log of changes on hourly rates will only show as of this release date 25th July 2025.
Reports
- 'Value for Time Spent' report is now updated to exclude any matters with no time records.
- 'Timesheet' report now gives you a pop-up first to choose your parameters, such as date period, user/s, or matter/s. This allows you to specify the details of the report you need before loading all records. Within the report, you can further change the date period if needed.
- 'Trust Balances' report is updated to show negative balances in brackets i.e. (200) and positive balances without brackets.
Other updates
- Sharing info within the matter Settings/Permission tab is now removed, and any users who previously had been granted access to a matter and/or documents using the old Share functionality will no longer have access.
- Call logs export within a matter updated to show relevant fields' data in Excel file.
- When a process in Thread requires an active dedicated Thread email, such as sending a ZIP of your matter documents, or syncing emails; and this inbox is invalid in your Microsoft environment, you will get a notification warning you that the dedicated email needs to be updated.
- Bug fix: Tasks for a document generated from a template showing task created date in a different time zone.
- Bug fix: Calendar preview when creating an appointment showing different time zone.
- Bug fix: Some UI issues throughout.
