Emailing with Thread

Thread offers various emailing functionalities, and you can find below a summary with the differences to help you decide on the best method to use for your company.

SENDING EMAILS:
  1. - when you send an email from a file in Thread you can have the sent email in activity screen automatically (you must have activity log turned on and email sending record set as "eml file" in your personal settings) 
    - direct replies to your sent email will come to the file emails tab 

  2. You can send email from Outlook instead and then pull in the sent email directly to activity via Add-in
    - if you want the replies to come through to the file emails tab you would need to save the draft email to the file using the add-in before sending, or you can just add email replies via add-in 
    (please note when saving draft email via add-in, once you send it this sent email will appear instead in your Inbox on file emails tab) 

RECEIVED EMAILS:
  1. Any email which is a direct reply to your email sent from Thread (with tracker code) will come to the File emails tab - this email can then be added to the activity screen from there
    - all emails that have gone through automatically to Thread files would have a Thread tracker code at the bottom of the email - however, there could be other firms using Thread which would have a tracker code in their email, so from Outlook this is not the sure way of knowing this tracker code is yours and the email went to the file - there is no sure way of knowing this from Outlook, best way is to check the file
    - if there is a tracker code from another company as well as your own, the email will still go to the file it belongs to in your Thread as long as your tracker code is there

  2. Any email that was not a direct reply to your email from Thread will need to be added either via Add-in or via Import option in File emails tab 
    - if added via Add-in the email will be added directly to activities screen -> you would have a green Thread category assigned to the email in your Outlook
    - if added via Import option the email will be added to the emails tab in a file, where you can then choose to add to activity -> you would also have a green Thread category assigned to the email in your Outlook 
EMAIL ATTACHMENTS:
  1. Sending -> You can attach file documents to the email whether sending from Outlook or Thread (from Outlook + from Thread)
  1. Received 
  1. -> You can choose to add the attachment to a file activity screen directly using the Add-in 
    -> You can also choose to add the attachment to the activity screen from the email tab in a file 

UNASSIGNED EMAILS:

Emails sent to and from files on Thread have an ID that automatically links them to the file. However, if an email is sent to the Thread dedicated email address, and it is not specifically linked to a file, then it will end up on the Unassigned Emails page. Further, scanned items that have been received using a configured subject line or the dedicated email address, will also end up on the this page. See here for more details. Note: If your company is sending emails from individual email addresses in Thread, you can ignore this section entirely.
